Nico King was born and raised in Vienna. She also lived, studied, and worked abroad in South Africa, the USA, the Netherlands, Portugal, Israel, and Germany. She received a Dipl.-Ing. (Engineer’s degree) in landscape design in February 2012 and an M.A. in critical studies in January 2016—both with distinction. Between 2009 and 2015 King worked in various landscape architecture offices and was a researcher at BOKU on landscape history of the 20th century. She received the Schindler scholarship by the Viennese Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) and was architect–in–residence at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles in the 2016/17 cycle. The Federal Chancellery of Austria awarded her a START grant for young architects and designers in 2017. The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna bestowed a year-long studio scholarship to her in 2018.
