Inventorisation of Modern Heritage: Urbanism and Landscape

13 March 2014, Edinburgh College of ArtThe focus of this conference is documentation in all its forms, encompassing a range of issues and experiences relating to the surveying, recording and inventorisation of modern urban and landscape ensembles.Organised by Docomomo’s International Specialist Committee on Urbanism and Landscapes, together with the Scottish Centre for Conservation Studies at the University of Edinburgh, the conference extends over the full day, beginning with a morning session of lectures at the university’s Edinburgh College of Art Lauriston campus and an afternoon excursion to the community recording-initiative and postwar townscape of Wester Hailes. The day will be capped with a Conservation Masterclass given by Poul Sverrild, Director of the Forstadsmuseet (Suburban Museum) in Greater Copenhagen. His talk will discuss the Danish listing practices and the heritage of the welfare state.Entry to the conference is free (except for the Masterclass), but booking is essential and will open to the general public on 06 March.
