The “Alvise Trincanato” Prize is established by the non-profit association “A testa in su”, in collaboration with the Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio, with the aim of supporting young scholars in memory of Alvise Trincanato, a doctoral researcher in the History of Architecture at IUAV Venice who passed away prematurely in 2019.
The purpose of the Prize is the publication of an original study in the field of the history of early modern architecture. Eligible are scholars of any nationality who have been awarded a doctoral degree with a dissertation in the History of Architecture within the last five years, that is, no earlier than 1 January 2019.
Eligible submissions are doctoral dissertations that must be appropriately adapted for publication, with a maximum length of approximately 400,000 characters and a maximum of 160 images in black and white. Publication of the winning volume will take place only once the complete, print-ready manuscript has been delivered, accompanied by the definitive iconographic apparatus, for which all rights and copyright matters must already have been resolved by the author.
In selecting works for publication, no distinction will be made on the basis of the nationality or gender of the author, or of the subject matter, provided it falls within the field of the history of architecture between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. Texts may be submitted in Italian, English, German, French, or Spanish.
Those wishing to apply must submit to the Prize Committee:
- an abstract of no more than five pages (in Italian or English),
- a curriculum vitae of no more than one page (in Italian or English),
- and a cover letter specifying: first and last name, date and place of birth, place of residence, email address for correspondence, title of the work, and a declaration that the submitted research has not received other prizes, has not been previously published in full, and is not currently under publication.
The jury will select the projects admitted to the second stage of evaluation, for which applicants will be asked to submit, in digital format, the table of contents of the volume and one chapter of the manuscript considered particularly significant, already drafted in its definitive, publication-ready version.
The jury will identify the winning manuscript, which will be published in the “Premio Alvise Trincanato” series by publisher Campisano, in collaboration with C.I.S.A. Andrea Palladio, and may additionally commend a second particularly meritorious work. The Committee reserves the right not to award the prize should it find no manuscript worthy of publication among those examined. The Committee’s decisions are final and binding.
The winning volume will be presented at a public event held in Verona, Vicenza, or Venice.
The jury will be composed of three members identified by A testa in su APS and C.I.S.A. Andrea Palladio from among scholars and experts in the history of architecture.
