ThinkingArchitecture: Theory and Philosophy of Architecture International Symposium
Technische Universität Berlin, Institute for Architecture, May 29 – 30, 2015
Throughout its history architecture has had a major role in philosophy as a metaphor of logical-constructive activity. Since the crisis of modern architecture there has been a notable increase in the instances of architectural theorists turning to philosophy as they widen the critical question of the cultural function of architecture. Hitherto, however, there has been no integrated form of architectural-philosophical reflection that can do justice to the role of architecture as the cultural practice that people use to create a uniquely suitable environment (distinct from the purely natural world) for their needs, both changing and unchanging. The two-day conference will focus on different approaches to this topic by architectural theorists and philosophers and explore the relationship of theory and philosophy.
The symposium will be held on May 29th and 30th, 2015 at the Institute for Architecture of Technische Universität Berlin on the occasion of the publication of the book “Architektur und Philosophie. Grundlagen, Positionen, Perspektiven” (ed. by Jörg H. Gleiter and Ludger Schwarte, Bielefeld 2015).
The conference language is English (May 29th) & German (May 30th).
Free admission, though we kindly ask you for registration: http://thinkingarchitecture.architekturtheorie.tu-berlin.de.
