Call for Papers: Workshop Identitäten/Identités. Paris, 31 March – 1 April 2020

Organized by Prof. Dr. Sabine Frommel (EPHE, Paris), Prof. Dr. Claudine Moulin (University of Trier), Prof. Dr. Iris Wenderholm (University of Hamburg)
The question of a social, national, religious and cultural identity seems particularly relevant today. On topics such as inequalities, social conflicts, migration, media and communication transformations, we find common points of reflection with the beginning of modern times: because of important social changes, cultural exchanges and spectacular inventions one can highlight, between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, many debates around the question of identity, which find expression in art, poetry, linguistic reflection, history or architecture. The Workshop Identitäten/Identités proposes to study the factors sometimes promoting, sometimes stigmatizing the identity, and to re-examine them within the framework of an  interdisciplinary approach. Special attention will be given to transmission phenomena, transformation, resilience and normative identity, and the creation of a discourse about the identities and their constitution.
The workshop is organized by the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (PSL, Paris Research University), the University of Hamburg (Kunstgeschichtliches Seminar) and the University of Trier (TriKo / Trierer Kolleg für Mittelalter und frühe Neuzeit). The workshop is supported by the ’Institut d’Études Avancées de Paris and will take place in German and French.
The full call for papers (in German and French) is available here.
500 words proposals and a brief CV can be sent by 30 November 2019 to sabine.frommel@ephe.psl.eumoulin@uni-trier.deiris.wenderholm@uni-hamburg.de
