Urban Space, Architecture and the Moving Image

The conference will focus on the relationship between urban space, architecture and the moving image, offering a forum for scholars, practitioners and the public. Cinema and Architecture’s association has been the subject of scholarly investigations for some time, but rarely have the different ways to approach this theme been brought together in a multidisciplinary debate that examines the depiction of the city through cinema and the role of films as a reflection, commentary and experimental laboratory for architecture.

The Conference is organized within the scope of the Research Project “Silent Rupture. Intersections between architecture and film. Portugal, 1960-1974”, a project that aims to offer the opportunity to approach the intersections between Architecture and Cinema. This project has gone beyond the theoretical discussion into actual filmmaking, collecting several awards [Best short film – Arquitectura Film Festival Santiago Chile 2012; Special Jury Prize – Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival 2013, Official Selection at Indie Lisboa 2013], as well as multiple participations in international film festivals.
